The Hobbit,
Guillermo del Toro was already preparing his own original project entitled Pacific Rim. The film itself is the result of collaboration of del Toro and Travis Beacham which are both inspired to make a story about the battle between giant robots fighting giant monsters.
Pacific Rim is called taking inspiration from Kaiju films. Kaiju itself is taken from the Japanese language meaning a strange creature, but the influence of the many Japanese films featuring the strange giant creatures, Kaiju now more often associated as a term for giant monsters.
Examples of the most famous Kaiju films of course Godzilla is arguably the ancestor of monster films that many sequels appear including dozens of Godzilla himself. Kaiju addition, the film also takes inspiration quite a lot of mecha themed films, particularly from the manga. One example is the Neon Genesis Evangelion Patlabor up which also featured giant robots piloted by humans.
In the future, the human race was startled by the appearance of a giant monster that appears from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Originally monsters called Kaiju are just emerging and it took a week for the military forces to defeat him. But some time intermittent another Kaiju increasingly popping up all over the world and devastated and killed millions of lives.
Then hope came when world governments come together and created a project to take the fight to the Kaiju. The project is to build a giant robot called Jaegers. The robot requires two pilots to operate, where the mind of the pilots will be connected with each other.
Raleigh (Charlie Hunnam) is one of the Jaegers pilot who had managed to kill a lot of Kaiju. But after his brother who became his partner was killed while on duty he decided to retire.
Several years passed Kaiju the more and more powerful monsters in which it began to adapt in the fight against Jaegers. Kaiju when increasingly, along with the remaining amount Jaegers fewer pilots. At this point Marshall Stacker (Idris Elba) to call back Raleigh to plunge into battle.
Pacific Rim opened with remarkable when we paraded about how Kaiju first appeared and began destroying many places. Threats presented by these giant monsters seem so terrible since the opening scene. The images show how the giant monster that would make T-Rex look like ants seem so majestic.
Indeed deeply felt fantasy story, but the packaging del Toro at the beginning of this section that combines reportage camera footage and make it feel real success story. It is obviously closely related to how the visual imagination of the film wrap and crazy dream of a Guillermo del Toro. How del Toro created a terrible monster figure who had a variety of shapes with giant intimidating size, how he presents Jaegers as opposed semibang Kaiju, and how pertarunagn epic between the two monsters that summed it all tasted amazing when talking visual problems.
Talk style problem I'm sure the majority of the audience agreed that the Pacific Rim is worth mentioning the number one. But what about the substance of the story? Many Pacific Rim judge only put forward a series of visually alluring and forget the other important elements including story characters and characterization. Yes, the opinion that the
Pacific Rim is one example of style over substance.
After opening that feels so real, the story itself was noticeably oversized and defeated by the battle scenes between the robots fighting monsters. Sense of the Kaiju attacks as a global threat is successfully established at the outset can be recognized even begin to disappear until the film ends. That the remaining big fight between Jaegers against Kaiju, Kaiju threat while elements of the human race finally began to disappear as a result the film is too focused on the fight scene and the situation between the resistance compared explore Kaiju that threatens mankind throughout the world.
The potential of the character is also explored in depth is less successful though yes not completely fail. The concept brings together two people become one mind can create an interesting drama between the characters. Moreover, the two main characters, Raleigh and Mako (Rinko Kikuchi) is equally wounded people keep in their hearts due to a dark past that is filled by the loss of their loved ones.
This aspect might be less than the maximum explored but not exactly fail, because in the end both the main character still does not feel empty like what appears on many blockbuster movie Transformers suppose. The emergence of two scientists, played by Charlie Day and Burn Gorman are also quite interesting that they both have interesting chara different from each other. Of course since this is a Guillermo del Toro movie then we will see the figure of Ron Perlman who plays Hannibal Chau, a black market trader who managed to become a scene stealer. Idris Elba may just be that his performance was not memorable.
Pacific Rim may fail to maintain the global threat of Kaiju, but it was successfully covered by moment battle against Kaiju Jaegers were successfully executed del Toro so epic. Seeing these two giants destroy each other whether it be on land, on the sea floor and even in the air into a dish that is so stressful.
Perhaps the work of Guillermo del Toro's latest is not as epic that is expected, but nonetheless
Pacific Rim is exciting and sanagt thrilling spectacle where style over substance does not always end badly if executed correctly. Of course we hope will be a sequel which hopefully keep dinahkodai by del Toro.
